Solar is one of the most well known renewable energy technologies and has been in practical use for decades. It is a proven technology however it still struggle to compete with the relative low cost of coal, oil and gas.

This feed in tariff is the most generous with solar and currently pays 41.3 pence for every kilowatt of electricity that you produce. This compares to 3 pence for selling that same electricity back to the grid. So you can see the tariff is very generous and has lead to a boom in solar panel installations.
One of the side effects of this boom is what could be described as a gold rush or more precisely a green rush to cash in on green technologies. Many foreign companies have already set up solar installations in the UK so as they can cash in with this tariff.
Solar installation companies in the UK have also started to come up with ingenious solutions to take advantage of this new policy. They are offering to supply and install systems on your home. They can provide free solar panels as they can claim the feed in tariff which not only covers their investment but also earns them a hefty profit.
So how can you benefit from the free panels? The agreement with these firms is that you get to use the electricity, that means free electricity for you. This is guaranteed for 25 years so can add up to many thousands of pounds of free electricity. A great way to take advantage of the governments tariff without having to spend a penny.
