Nanosolar 1GW Solar Power Film Coater

World’s first 1GW solar production tool. Breakthrough in the production of solar electricity cells: Simply printed (using ink with semiconductor nanoparticles).

Printing is a non-vacuum coating process that eliminates the need for a high-vacuum chamber as it is conventionally used. Printing is 200 times more capital efficient: A twenty times slower high-vacuum tool costs ten times as much.

Here is a way that …
Here is a way that a residential house could effectively store solar energy during the five hours of good sunshine, to last for the full twenty-four hours in a day. Use a hydraulic elevator system lifting a very heavy weight, where the energy is stored by the gravity of the weight. When the sun goes down,or when more power is needed during the five hours of good sunshine, the very heavy weight movement is reversed and the hydraulics is used to generate power. Maybe more days could be stored.

I hope we have this …
I hope we have this kind of technology in our country so that we could use it in every roof in every house to light our bulbs.

I’ve seen this hype …
I’ve seen this hype before, it’s all useless unless I can buy them, which the government won’t let happen because it would destroy there corporates friends oil biz. It’s already a year. Again Bull!! Show us a picture of these so called 1st year cells and where they are at. Again won’t happen.

it looks cool, but I want to see a video how do you hook up the wires and put power in a battery or an appliance or a lightbulb.

Dude. I so want a crate of these for my roof.

Oh, and while we’re on the phone Mr. Nanosolar… now how about an electric car to go with that…

$1 a watt? I’d be …
$1 a watt? I’d be happy if I could purchase this at $3 a watt. For a mere $6000, you’d have enough to power your home, pretty easily.

I’m suspicious of the promises until I see these on the market at the promised price.

yeah you are probably right… then no hippi videos soon.

nanosolar would also sell 1 solarpanel on ebay, the price went high, several 1000 us dollars, maybe it was some of nanosolars “unknown” competitors that pushed the price so high up. i dunno.

Thank you for the …
Thank you for the information. 12.5w per square foot is good to know. If I found 400sq ft on my roof facing the sun, 5Kw in daylight would be nice. I won’t pay $5,000 if you meant to say 99¢ per watt, unless that’s the installed price with a 10 year warranty. Anything that lays on my roof shingles will help protect the shingles from weather. Aluminum foil would increase the heat and that may cause the roofing materials to soften enough to wear quicker.

Nope, they say they …
Nope, they say they are sold out for all of 2008!Check out their site..it sucks and doesn’t give much information to verify what they say!The cells were tested in 2006 and were about 14% efficient, unless they have developed them to be more efficient that is not that efficient. Silicone based cells are 14-19% efficient.

quaheedus November 5, 2008 at 8:04 am

Where do you get …
Where do you get this crap!..it does not double as roofing material, its integrated with existing roofing membrane! 2w per square foot? Existing solar panels can produce12.5 watts per square foot or more! 30 cents per watt? the Nanosolar site say as little as 99 cents kw not 30. Just because they can produce it cheap does not mean they have to sell it cheap, just cheaper than their competitors!
You live in a 200 sq ft apt or house?

They should make a …
They should make a video of the factory producing solar cells, cruising around the factory, viewing it from many angels…many hippies would love to watch that video.

the cells are first sold to companies, first later will they be sold to ordinary people.

These need to be …
These need to be offered to homeowners so we can get off of coal and oil and get as soon as possible to payback to save money. When I get a plug in car (the Toyota Prius can now be plugged in with an A123 battery), my car will be solar as well.

A video said 277.8w …
A video said 277.8w per square foot comes from the sun, but roughly how much electricity is generated by these panels per square foot (or however you would like to measure it)? My roof has more than 200 square feet of space that would be perfect for such solar film and even 2w per square foot would be something. At 30¢ per watt I’ll find space, because it doubles as roofing material.

I am afraid Nanosolar have teamed up with the largest energy company in the world !! I guess the energy company did it to ‘spike nanosolar’s guns’ so they would sell to the likes of you and me. If we could get these panels we would inevitably undermine these energy companies!!!

By sellling direct to us they would be cutting out the middleman – the big energy companies.

Of course the governments are in league with the big energy companies – there will be no democracy without revolution ;-)
