Finally we can say that the Spain Government does something to promote renewable energies beyond our borders. And is that today a small group composed of 34 ambassadors have come to know the facilities and the research lines of the CENER (National Center of renewable energies), and have done so with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and cooperation, that he wanted in this way to give other Nations a pretty clear vision of what is being done here with clean energy.

Up there, all right. A nice photo, a guided walk around facilities decked out for the occasion, and of course technicians and workers with a smile from ear to ear, that convey the feeling of a Spain where investments in I + D and the effort to achieve that old utopia that is the efficiency energy (or, in its more ambitious version, sustainable development). However, what is in the “back” of this visit only know those who are informed of the latest movements in the sector, which incidentally were not anything positive and were carried out by a Minister of industry, to make matters worse, it has already announced that he leaves.

Hopefully at least the visit will serve to lend a hand to all the small and medium-sized businesses that need a lifeline out later in these times of crisis, because either way by the National Executive the future looks pretty bleak.

Renewable energy is becoming more and more important energy option. World is well aware that renewables are our only chance to tackle climate change, and this is the main reason why we hear so many different news and reports about new solar, wind, biomass and geothermal projects.

Even despite this recent popularity renewable power sector will need plenty of time before being able to put a serious challenge that would end the fossil fuels dominance. Fossil fuels do not only have tradition on their side but also very powerful lobbies that control politics as much as possible.

Science is focused on finding solutions that would give renewables more artillery in fight against fossil fuels, such as solving intermittency issue of solar and wind, making wind turbines and solar panels more efficient, and overall decrease the costs of renewable energy technologies.

Science and technology hold the key of clean energy future, and only with the help of science and technology can energy sources such as solar and wind become economically viable, and cost-competitive with fossil fuels like coal and natural gas.

The good thing is certainly the rapid development of many renewable power technologies, and the bad news is that renewable energy economics still isn’t comparable with fossil fuels, and this will by all means have to change in years to come.

In the meantime world media should continue promoting clean energy sources because this is the only way to not only save our planet from global warming but also to ensure future energy security.
